“Giuseppina Grech a soprano of warmth and freshness.”
Australian-Italian soprano Giuseppina Grech is one of Australia’s most exciting and popular vocal talents, celebrated for her versatility across opera, music theatre, and crossover repertoire.
In 2026, Giuseppina reprises the role of Carlotta Giudicelli in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 40th Anniversary production of The Phantom of the Opera on Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour with Opera Australia. This year, Giuseppina also produces and performs in her own show, Opera and Classics in Concert, and returns with Songs from Grand Opera Stages to London’s West End, following a sold-out season in 2025, featuring an Australian leading cast.
Giuseppina regularly appears as a principal artist with Opera Australia in both mainstage and touring productions. Her roles with the national company include the notoriously demanding Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute at the Sydney Opera House, a role celebrated for its virtuosic coloratura, extreme upper register, and technical precision, earning praise for her fearless high notes and command of one of opera’s most challenging soprano roles. She has also starred as Carlotta Giudicelli in The Phantom of the Opera at the Sydney Opera House and Arts Centre Melbourne to critical acclaim, with reviews highlighting her vocal brilliance, comedic flair, and commanding stage presence. Additional roles include Frasquita in Carmen and Isabella/Ferdinand in El Kid. She has further appeared in Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour productions of La Bohème and La Traviata, and performed in Aida, Madama Butterfly, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Anna Bolena at the Sydney Opera House.
A graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Giuseppina continued her studies at Teatro Accademia alla Scala in Milan under renowned soprano Luciana Serra. At just 23, she made her European debut as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at Teatro Moriconi in Italy and has since performed at major theatres and festivals across Europe.
Her other notable operatic and music theatre roles include Swallow (The Happy Prince, Victorian Opera), Dido (Dido and Aeneas, VCA), Valencienne (The Merry Widow), and Josephine (HMS Pinafore) for Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria, as well as creating the role of Daughter in the world premiere of Gordon Kerry’s Grimms Tales. She was also nominated for a Music Theatre Guild Award for her portrayal of Lady Thiang in The King and I for Babirra Theatre.
As a concert soloist, Giuseppina tours nationally and internationally with leading crossover artists, including Mark Vincent, The Australian Tenors, and classical violinist Ian Cooper in An Afternoon at the Proms. She has shared the stage with distinguished artists such as Sir Bryn Terfel, Yvonne Kenny, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, David Hobson, and James Morrison, and has performed extensively throughout Asia, including China, Vietnam, and Singapore.
In 2021, Giuseppina released her debut album, Love Is My Reason, a collection of beloved works from opera, operetta, and Broadway. She has also devised and performs two self-produced shows, touring extensively on luxury cruise lines throughout South-East Asia and the Pacific.
